GARW S.B.G.C. UNDER 10 FOOTBALL 2005-6

The Team plays in the Bridgend & District Mini-football set-up, which encourages youngsters from the age of 7 upward to take part in organised football but without the pressure of league competition.

In addition, the teams play 8-a-side on much-reduced pitches (about 1/3 size) and use small goalposts. Matches are usually no longer than 20 minutes in length (2 x 10 minute halves), matches tend to be played in “round-robins” with 2, 3 or 4 other clubs, and are refereed by team coaches in turn. There are no offsides or penalties, and children are encouraged to play for the fun of the game rather than to win. Team coaches are qualified and approved by the Mini-football organisation. Boys and girls play together at this level and arrangements are always made to ensure privacy etc. Safety is always the first and last concern of coaches and parents are encouraged to take an active part in games.

The squad has done really well this year and the improvement made during the season is a credit to them all. Although the results haven’t always gone our way, our style of play, which is to get the ball down on the ground and pass it, is arguably the best in the area.

Squad members this year are: Gareth Watkins, Thomas Elliott, Dewi Clarke, Matthew Kembrey, Elliott Sage, Deri Prior, Cian Johns, Jordan Spanswick and Benjamin Lewis. Other players who have been involved during the Season are Sophie Cattle, Rhys Colwell, Curtis Evans and Harry Baker.

Benjamin plays as a lone forward and chips in with some goals with Jordan, Elliott and Deri all frequently finding the net. Cian is our very own “Steven Gerrard” in his influence and work with the Team. Dewi, Matthew and Thomas are strong defenders and Gareth is regarded as one of the best keepers in the area. Benjamin also provides reliable cover in goal.

All in all, it has been a satisfying season all round!
